I'm paying for this post.

Yea, the North is pretty cool, we drove the Top of The World Highway, stopped in Chicken Alaska (pop. 30-50 at it's peak in the summer.) Went on to Dawson, did the Sourtoe, got drunk and gambled. Dylan staggered from boardwalk to boardwalk on the walk back to the bunkhouse. Well, I didn't win my category. I'm pretty choked about it, but I've found something to do, and that is starting the organization of Facial Hair clubs in our great Nation under the umbrella of Beard Team Canada. I want to get back to Winnipeg, miss a lot of good people there. But we keep meeting good people everywhere we stop. Hmmmm, yea. I think I'm going to try and write more when I'm not hungover.

Introducing the Loafcam...

So this is the loafcam. We had the Parade and Grizzly Beard contest last night, with Beard Team Canada bringing home 2 of the categories with the Black Beard and the Pyrite Pioneers. We closed down the bars and were still singing O Canada with the aussies long after all the other teams were in bed and the bars had pushed us out for the night. Today is the big contest and it should be an incredible sight to see. More to come...

Primping and Preening day

So today is the official Beard Parade and Grizzly Beard competition. The Beards will all be busy with carefully conditioning, brushing, molding, shaping and generally polishing their Beards. I'm going to try and post pictures of our very own Beard Team Canada, which has a strong showing for a first year team. We've been hanging around with Dave Janzen of Beard Team Canada and his buddy Nathan, who are doing something similar to myself and loaf and have some good pictures up here for you guys to check out. more to come...

What's up buttercup!?

Hey, Loaf here. Quick one, Alaskan beer awesome, getting tattoo today, packing car now.

Beard BBQ

Hey,
The beards are rolling in now. This is bairly the tip of the iceberg, as I wasn't really taking pictures, mostly filming and drinking stellar Alaskan beer. There was a hosted BBQ then a bunch of the beardos headed downtown for some beer. We were hanging out at Humpy's, which boasts the most incredible selection of beer I've ever seen with some of the most incredible names I've ever heard. I've been enjoying some of the darker beers, specifically Midnight Sun's Son of Berserker and Arctic Rhino Coffee Porter and a really killer Scotch Ale by Kanai River Brewery that had some crazy name I can't quite recall. sorry. I don't think I've had anything under 8.5% since I crossed the border.

Anyway, we're having a great time up here, Loaf looks poised to have a good chance in the Partial Beard: Sideburns category, but there's some stiff competition. Everyone is super friendly and we've met some stellar people so far. I'll fire up more pics as soon as i can.

got lost and drove the Alaskan highway...

We've got some catching up to do...
So we rocked out of Whitehorse, drove the crazy part of the alaskan highway, which is the two hours south of the border, and is like driving on the worst winnipeg pothole filled street with crazy frost heave speedbumps that can get a Monte Carlo airborne at 100km. We crashed in Tok (not actually crashed, dont worry mom) which was kinda just a dinky little not really anything town, then bombed along towards Anchorage. We got lost and accidentally ended up driving the entire historic Alaskan Highway, which ends in Delta Junction. We bought certificates for it and went to grab some breaky. We hit up a cool friendly diner called Poorboys which turned out to have the best ribs ever. They beat any ribs I've ever had in every way. The new owners of the place were these real friendly folks from North Carolina who drove the Alaskan highway in January with their meat smoker. I would consider taking a trip up there just to have those ribs again.

Anyway, drove from there down towards Anchorage, pulled in at a little place on the highway called Long Rifle Lodge for some water and ended up digging the view so much we stayed a night. We had the place to ourselves, sat on the grass on the side of a mountain, smoked pipes and drank whisky and wine and beer, and just took the night off. Next morning, still singing "Whisky your the devil" we rolled the last hairy 2 hours of the drive to Anchorage. We're couchsurfing again here and spent the evening at a meet and greet with the early arrival beardos at the fantastic Midnight Sun Brewery. Alaska has more wicked breweries then any place ever. There's 4 just in Anchorage, which is pop like 250,000.

So alive and well and going strong. Loaf is snoring like a '72 buick with a broken muffler fighting a dinosaur and I'm about to hit the hay, well floor, as well. We have a beard picnic in the park tomorrow and I just realized I should take some beard pictures as you guys can't see the video yet. Rest assured, there will be more footage then anyone will ever want to watch. It's been an incredible trip so far though and the Championships look to be off the wall as well, so as always, we'll keep you posted.

cheers,
dylan

Whitehorse loves the mustache and the mustache loves Whitehorse

Whitehorse is a cool little town. They love my stache and give no beard love. Me an Loafer hit the bars, had some jars of beer and watched legendary lap steel blues man Sonny Rhodes at the Goldrush. Loaf wrote enough for both of us so i'll just drop some pics.

Tok, pronounced Toke

Hey, Loaf here, beer in hand, head wants to make sweet passionate sleep to the pillow, but you, my beautiful readers long for my rant. We spent 2 days and nights in Whitehorse. I dunno, I think I could live there if I owned a sweet little bar where good people came and had good times. I'm not getting data coverage for my device which makes me feel fucking naked and disconnected. Dylan is happy with the Old Grand Dad Bourbon, gawd damned corn liquor. Do you know that drivers in Whitehorse actually stop for pedestrians who are using cross walks? Insane, I know. Now, a little bit about American beer, it's good. Beer like music requires sifting past mounds of shit to find the gold, there's some buddhist concept that's very similar, Tathagata Gharba or something, but beer is way cooler than buddhism. Hunh, I run my sentences on pretty damn long. There's mountains all over but the driving isn't that hairy. For those who know it's felt like driving through Riding Mountains for the last ohhh I dunno, 3-4 days? And go eat at the Park Diner on 20th in Saskatoon if you have the chance, thank Liam for pointing that joint out to us. We checked out Sonny Rhodes in Whitehorse last night, but before that we checked out some of the other bars. Saw something amazing there, if you want to know ask me I might tell you over a drink. Oh, Here in Tok I had a smoke in a bar before it was closed, not as amazing as I expected. No hassle coming over the border here. This post slapped order in the face.

Anyways, Dudes, thrrow out your razors and women love them for it, kay?

Loaf out.

So much sun.

Wow, I don't think it became fully dark last night. Couch surfed the second most comfortable couch in existence. 12 hours driving or so yesterday. It's pretty beautiful out here, for nature. Have 2-3 more days driving before Anchorage, depending on how we go, we're gonna bomb around Whitehorse today, brewery tour in a few hours. Had some wicked cinnamon buns yesterday and picked up some used Hank Williams and Johnny Cash discs. We've been discussing songs to master for karaoke. Well hell we've been discussing a lot, we are in a car together for 6 hours a day or more. Oh, and apologies to anyone who lets us use their bathrooms after the road.

Yukon Gold

Rolled into Whitehorse late last night after a scenic but long 12 hour drive. Crashed in to Couchsurf with a wildlife photographer from Paris named Nikolai where we ended up playing guess that cartoon theme song in french with the entire 5 person French population of Whitehorse. Are gonna chill out in Whitehorse to check out the town, take in a brewery tour and basically just not drive all day. It's a beautiful city that I'm looking forward to spending some time in. We sorta had to hustle today so lots of the pictures are just out the front window. sry. It's a stunning drive though and we've had great weather so far.

Day 4: Fort something or other

Process is going well. We couchsurfed the other night with an very friendly semi-retired couple at their hand build log cabin outside of Dawson Creek. Highways have been good, better then Saskatchewan by quite a bit. Its beautiful and rugged and empty up here. Here being Fort Nelson where we stopped off for the night. Tomorrow we'll be making the jump to Whitehorse. Things keep going well. It's been hovering just above zero the entire trip and we're getting far enough north that there's snow left over from the winter. Scenery is beautiful and we've seen moose and a bear already. I'll keep trying to post pictures and updates that we're alive here when i can.
